Galaxy Auto Glass has OE dealer quality calibration equipment that allows us to perform the highest level of recalibration on the vehicles we work on! Over the years auto glass has become more complex with features built in the windshield. ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) is built into many of the newer vehicles that are within 10 years old. The front windshield of the vehicle with ADAS needs to be calibrated with the vehicles camera system to function properly. Galaxy Auto Glass uses the most advanced windshield calibration technology to ensure your ADAS system is functioning properly.

What is ADAS?

ADAS stands for “Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.” These safety systems most commonly come standard in newer vehicles, though Anti-Locking Brakes, the first of ADAS features, was introduced in the 70s. The purpose of ADAS is to aid in the operation of a vehicle more safely and effectively by improving your ability to react to dangers on the road, through early warnings and system automation. These systems rely on sensors and/or cameras mounted around the vehicle, including a camera mounted to the front windshield. Learn more about windshield calibration in our blog!

How Does ADAS Work?

There are 2 types of calibrations an auto glass company will perform after installing your windshield, each vehicle is different. These methods are called Static and Dynamic. A Static calibration uses specialized tools and targets (designed to OEM specifications) to make sure the camera mounted on your windshield is in the correct position. Whereas a Dynamic calibration consists of the technician getting behind the wheel and driving in traffic, allowing the camera and sensors to read the road markers and street signs to determine proper placement. For some vehicles, such as Hondas and Subarus, both a Static and Dynamic calibration must be performed before the systems will work properly.

Some common ADAS features include:

  • Lane Departure
  • Rear Crash Warning
  • Parking Sensors
  • Wiper Sensors
  • Driver Awareness Sensors
  • Collision Avoidance
  • Blind-Spot Monitoring
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
